Year 3 Learning Zone 5

Year 3 have been working particularly hard this week.

In Maths we have been placing numbers on a number line and rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.

In English we have been writing a recount in the form of a newspaper report based on the visit from the Happy Puzzle Company.

Prehistoric Ignite!

Our Ignite for our topic, Prehistoric Britain, was spent with a box from Hertford Museum consisting of prehistoric artefacts from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. The children had the opportunity to investigate, handle and sketch these wonderful artefacts, which included Mesolithic scrapers, a Bronze Age axe head, a Neolithic Axe head, Iron Age coins and many more.

Africa ‘Penny Mile’

On Friday, we did some more fundraising for the water tank in Africa in the form of a ‘penny mile’, however we did it slightly differently! The whole of the school got involved by bringing in coppers. The coppers then filled an image of Africa which was on the staging in the Dell. It looked amazing by the time it was filled!

A HUGE thank you to everyone for your generous donations.

We have counted £60 so far and still counting!

Reading project update

Congratulations to Year 3 for completing your Reading Project over the last eight weeks. Everyone has enjoyed the reading all of the Reading Project books. Some children have read as many as forty books and have really improved their reading skills!

On average we have improved our reading age as a class by 6 months.

Well done to all the avid readers in Year 3!

Rainforest animals come to visit

Our new topic is the rainforest and today we were lucky enough to have a visist from animals that are found in this habitat. Charles and Ben from Impeyan brought animals such as snakes, frogs, spider, owls, bats, an armadillo, sugar glider and some baby meerkats even popped in too. Charles was so knowledgeable and Ben looked after all the animals so well. We were able to touch and hold all the animals even the ones with sharp teeth!

Super cute!

Year 3 get their pulse racing

Year 3 wanted to find out the answer to this question.

Will my heart beat go twice as fast if I exercise twice as fast?

Ask them to find out what they concluded from their investigation.

Can anyone advise me if “Provigil Online” really doesn’t cause addiction? Actually the only thing that stops me is that. I was told it is similar to and this hell of a drug. I just want to increase the time for studying, not becoming a narco. Please share your experience.

‘Dem bones, dem bones’

We have been investigating bones during our topic ‘Marvellous Me’. We had to look at different bones and try and identify them and which animal they came from.
