Explore Learning

On Tuesday 10th September, ‘Explore Learning’ came into Year 5 to run a literacy workshop. The children looked at a fascinating story and investigated the characters. They had excellent observational skills and made some great points. Well done children.

Legal Eagles

On Wednesday 26th June, Mr Crispin, a local magistrate visited year 5 and 6. We set up a ‘court’ and held a trial.

We took the parts of the defendant, lawyers, witnesses and magistrates. It was a very fun morning and we also learned lots about the law in England.

Science Week – Workshops

On Thursday 13th June, Mrs Glennie came in to our class to help us carry out an investigation – 60 second rockets!

Today, we looked at another reaction – what happened when we mixed a Vitamin C tablet with water. We found out that carbon dioxide gas was produced and this propelled our canister into the air!

We were all successful and many of us were able to change our variables so that our rocket went off as close to 60 seconds as possible. It was so exciting waiting for ‘blast off’!

Thank you for a very scientific but fun morning Mrs Glennie!

Science Week – Mad Science Day

On Tuesday 11th June, we were visited by Cosmic Chris and Static Shell from the Mad Science Company.

During our session, we looked at acids and bases and used PH paper to see the reactions between different household items.

We also found out what happened when we mixed vinegar and bicarbonate of soda – it was great fun watching this reaction!

We even had time to make our own ‘slime’!

Science Week – Construction Day

On Monday 10th June, we were set the challenge of constructing a model linked to our topic. The children were very creative and produced some fantastic work.

It was extremely difficult to choose a winner but after much deliberation,  the winning model was an octopus created by Ewan and Georgia.

Money Week Panto

Monday 3rd June saw the start of Money Week for the whole school. There was an amazing ‘buzz’ and atmosphere around school!

For their money raising activity, Year 5 decided to organise a pantomime – Peter Pan. Together, they edited a script, allocated parts and jobs, organised costumes, prepared scenery and composed accompanying music.

The whole class did a fantastic job and surprised everyone by how well they did – it was a huge job but with their hard work and determination, they pulled it off!

Year 5 made a profit of £135.40 and the children are busy thinking about what they would like for their classroom!

A big well done and thank you to everyone who supported Year 5 during Money Week.

London Aquarium trip

On Tuesday 4th June, Year 5 visited the London Aquarium for part of our ‘under the sea’ topic. We had a fantastic day and really enjoyed ourselves!

We visited Shark walk, Ray lagoon, Ocean tunnel, Nemo’s coral caves, Seahorse temple, Rainforests of the world, Penguin Ice adventure and much much more! Our guide Luke was very informative and we added to our already large knowledge.

The children behaved impeccably and the staff at the Sealife Centre also commented on this – well done children!

Maypole performance

Well done children for a fantastic maypole display yesterday – the team were brilliant and have worked very hard over the last few weeks!

The children performed 3 dances – The Barber’s pole, The Spider’s web and The Double plait.

Operation Education

The trip to Romania during the Easter holidays went extremely well. Thank you to everyone who was so generous and donated items for us to send. The children absolutely loved their gifts!

We have now received letters from the children. They wrote to us in Romanian – luckily they were translated for us! Our children were thrilled to get a response. We look forward to continuing this link and keeping in touch with them. Thank you to Jeremy for all his hard work.
