About Markyate School
Welcome to Markyate Village School, I have been with the school since September 2006 and am committed to providing the very best learning opportunities for our children.
Markyate Village School and Nursery, as its name suggests, serves the village of Markyate which is situated close to St. Albans. We are a single form entry school, with a combined Foundation Stage for Nursery and Reception. Every class has a spacious classroom, often with an adjoining area for working on projects requiring more space or for small groups to work in with additional support. We have a large central resource centre. This includes both our fiction and non-fiction libraries and also a large computer suite with 30 networked computers. ICT is a feature of the school and each class is fitted with its own interactive whiteboard.
We are fortunate to have extensive grounds offering lots of opportunities for learning and play. The playing fields are ideal for all forms of sport that we teach throughout the year; there is a lovely dell area in which the children sometimes play, have great fun sliding down in the snow and gather in for assemblies during the summer. We have developed a mathematical garden for pleasure and for experiencing mathematical activities.
We are proud of our strong links with the community. Many parents and residents are frequently seen in school helping the children in a variety of ways. Groups of children often visit local shops, allotments and churches to enhance their environmental and religious studies.
Children are provided with lovely hot or cold meals, in our comfortable dining room, prepared by our very dedicated and experienced kitchen staff.
